Aluminum prices rose in London as the European Union prepares to implement a gradual ban on imports from Russia, allowing a quota of 275,000 metric tons for a year before the full ban takes effect. The EU has faced pressure to restrict Russian aluminum following the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, although some member states have hesitated due to difficulties in finding alternative suppliers. In the first 11 months of 2024, the EU imported about 320,000 tons of unwrought aluminum from Russia, accounting for 6% of its total imports.
