Thousands of Amazon Flex drivers have filed arbitration claims alleging misclassification as independent contractors instead of employees, with about 15,800 drivers seeking compensation for unpaid wages, overtime, and work-related expenses like mileage and cellphone use. The drivers also claim Amazon does not provide required rest and meal breaks, and fails to issue itemized wage statements as per California law. Amazon, however, maintains that the Flex program offers individuals flexibility and competitive pay. Amazon Flex is a service similar to Uber, providing quick deliveries of household goods through programs like Prime Now and Amazon Fresh.
