The Amazon Labor Union members have voted to affiliate with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, a 1.3 million-member U.S. labor union, giving them more resources to negotiate contracts with the e-commerce giant. This decision comes following ALU's victory in April 2022 when workers at Amazon's JFK8 facility in Staten Island joined the union, marking a significant step in unionization efforts at Amazon in the United States. The newly chartered ALU-International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1 will represent around 5,500 Amazon warehouse workers at JFK8 and have jurisdiction over Amazon warehouse workers in New York City's five boroughs.
