A report highlighted that in Taiwan, due to low national health insurance fees, many people have developed a habit of calling emergency services for minor issues, leading to ambulance services being misused as transportation to non-emergency medical facilities. Around 70% of ambulance cases are considered a waste of resources, with patients using ambulances for non-urgent conditions. This misuse has caused overcrowding in hospital emergency rooms, prompting some hospitals to 'bed-block.' Local fire departments have implemented fees for misusing ambulance services, with various cities charging for non-emergency cases or sending patients to outpatient clinics. The government aims to deter misuse of emergency services by imposing these fees.
