American distillers have experienced an 85% drop in exports to Canada amid ongoing global trade tensions, resulting in significant financial losses. Despite the removal of a retaliatory tariff by Canada, many provinces continue to restrict U.S. spirits, leading to a decline in overall exports which fell 9% in the second quarter of 2025. The situation poses serious risks to U.S. distillers, particularly smaller producers, who are struggling to maintain their market presence and recover lost sales, with concerns that consumer preferences may shift away from American brands due to these trade conflicts.
