On June 20, 2024, in the morning at 6:25, the court handed down the judgment to Hou Baiqing. A Taiwanese female master's student surnamed Jiang and her boyfriend surnamed Zhang went to the United States to study, financially supported by Jiang's father, a security guard. When the support was cut off, the couple killed Jiang's father with a hammer out of resentment after returning to Taiwan, and eventually received a life sentence in the first trial. The second trial maintained the original sentence, ruling out the death penalty based on the possibility of rehabilitation and societal reintegration.
