The suspect in the 2019 case, Chen Hongjia, was sentenced to life in prison instead of death by the Taichung High Court, a decision that sparked outrage and protest from the student who had no direct involvement in the case. The student's emotional outburst did not pose a threat to others, and he is now out of danger after receiving treatment.
