With the Dragon Boat Festival approaching close to the summer solstice, a period prone to various diseases, the first case of Japanese encephalitis, a zoonotic disease, recently emerged in Taiwan. To prevent diseases, citizens hang mugwort and artemisia at their doorsteps and create incense bags, while livestock farms also need to enhance epidemic prevention measures during the summer. New Taipei City's Animal Protection Department has already disinfected livestock farms 271 times from January to May and is now increasing visits and promoting disinfection among farmers before the Dragon Boat Festival. They are helping farms hang up giant incense bag-like mosquito traps to prevent diseases like Japanese encephalitis and anthrax from affecting livestock and human health.
