At the Digital Center on June 30, 2024, at 11:40 PM, on-site signatures were collected to dismantle a beam with people shouting for the recall of a beam. The civil group 'Mountain Sea Citizen Dismantling Action' in Keelung is pushing for the recall of Keelung Mayor Xie Guoliang. The second phase of signatures closed yesterday (6/30), with the initiators estimating that it exceeded the threshold of over 40,000 signatures. In response to this, KMT Chairman Eric Chu publicly stated that if a recall vote takes place, the KMT will fight back by initiating the recall of 5 Keelung city councilors from the Green Camp, including Tong Ziwei, Zhang Haohan, Zheng Wenting, Zhang Zhihao, and Chen Yi. Tong Ziwei, listed as the 'primary target', expressed that the KMT does not address governance issues that have led to public backlash but instead elevates the recall case to a political struggle, which will exacerbate Xie Guoliang's dilemma. It is believed that all Keelung citizens are not pleased with this political drama. With the recall case at a critical juncture, Eric Chu has issued a 'Stable Beam' mobilization order. The first meeting is scheduled to take place today (7/1), where Xie Guoliang will personally attend to devise strategies.
