Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation released a report on the latest national identity of Taiwanese, showing that 76.8% identify themselves as Taiwanese and only 6.6% as Chinese. Compared to a survey six months ago, the Taiwanese identity has slightly increased by 0.8%, while the Chinese identity has decreased by 0.6%. The report reveals that the younger generation has a higher percentage of Taiwanese identity, with 86.3% of 20 to 24-year-olds considering themselves as Taiwanese. The ongoing debate between Taiwanese and Chinese identities has been a fundamental issue in Taiwan's politics over the past 50 years, and today, Taiwanese identity has overwhelmingly prevailed.
