Apple in Talks with Meta for 'Apple Intelligence' Service Collaboration

Reported 8 months ago

The Wall Street Journal cited sources on June 24, 2024, revealing that Apple is currently in talks with Meta for a collaboration on artificial intelligence models, similar to its earlier partnership with OpenAI's GPT-4o in the 'Apple Intelligence' service. Apple is also looking to integrate ChatGPT features into its Siri digital assistant service. Although the collaboration with Meta has not been confirmed yet, Apple intends to diversify its AI technology partnerships beyond OpenAI to reduce reliance on a single provider. The collaboration models might follow a similar free basis like the OpenAI partnership, with potential for AI service providers to offer subscription plans. Apple may delay offering the 'Apple Intelligence' service in the EU and opt to partner with local AI service providers like Baidu and Alibaba in the unique Chinese market. In other news, Amazon plans to eliminate plastic cushioning in shipments by the year-end, Microsoft ends the 'Project Natick' underwater data center experiment, and French space startup Skynopy raises $3.1 million to improve connectivity with low-orbit satellite signals for devices like phones.
