Apple Quietly Adds Long-Unupdated 'Chess' Game in macOS 15 Sequoia

Reported about 1 year ago

During WWDC 2024, Apple announced updates for macOS 15 Sequoia, introducing features like 'Apple Intelligence' design and the ability to mirror personal iPhone functions and content. Additionally, an update was made to the built-in 'Chess' game, which had not been changed since 2012. The game was initially introduced with Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar and is based on the GNU Project's GNOME Project game content, built under the GPL3 open-source license and using the Sjeng Chess engine design. Apple has now updated the game in macOS 15 Sequoia along with providing example code for developers, offering realistic 3D chess pieces and various customization options.
