Indonesia has rejected Apple's $1 billion proposal, which sought to establish an AirTag factory, as insufficient to meet local investment requirements necessary for the sale of the iPhone 16. The government cited domestic content rules that mandate some production to occur onshore. Apple needs to negotiate further if it wants to obtain the necessary local content certificates to sell its products in the country, where it faces stiff competition from brands like Samsung.
