Following the EU's new law requiring handheld devices and lightweight electric vehicles to have easily replaceable batteries, Apple is reportedly researching design plans to make it easier for users to replace iPhone batteries. The law aims to ensure consumer electronics can have batteries replaced easily to avoid discarding products due to battery malfunctions, spurring Apple to potentially introduce new battery design allowing for easier removal through a conductive method to peel off adhesives. Apple is expected to adjust battery removal methods and may need to change device disassembly methods as well in response to the EU legislation set to take effect in 2027, aligning with Apple's recent commitment to allow more third-party parts for iPhone repairs without software restrictions, possibly indicating an accelerated adjustment of product designs and practices to comply with the new law.
