Apple unveiled its AI strategy at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 11, 2024, introducing 'Apple Intelligence' aimed at enhancing Siri, offering more personalized features, and ensuring security and privacy. The company announced a partnership with OpenAI to provide diverse AI services through ChatGPT to stimulate iPhone sales. The focus of this year's WWDC was on Apple Intelligence, spanning various ecosystems and offering AI functionalities across devices like iPhone, Mac, and iPad. Siri's language model was upgraded, and collaboration with OpenAI's ChatGPT produced a smarter assistant with new image and text generation capabilities for writing inspiration. The new features, expected to be released in the fall of 2024, included improvements in customization, productivity, and communication for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, catering to the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, advanced iPads, and Macs with M1 or newer chips. Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, referred to this as a 'significant next step' to provide a 'new personal intelligence system' integrating Apple's own generative AI models and custom design. The integration of Apple Intelligence with ChatGPT served to help users find solutions while ensuring privacy protection through consent-seeking before any queries, files, or photos are sent to ChatGPT, hiding IP addresses and allowing free use without the need for additional accounts; ChatGPT subscribers could link their accounts and access paid features directly within the system.
