Apple Inc. is set to have an observer role on OpenAI's board under a recent agreement, strengthening the relationship between the two companies. Phil Schiller, Apple's App Store head and former marketing chief, will be the board observer. This move follows Apple's plan to integrate ChatGPT into its devices in June. The arrangement will commence later this year. Microsoft is also a major backer of OpenAI. Schiller doesn't lead Apple's AI initiatives but is well-suited for the role due to his brand stewardship. This partnership doesn't involve financial transactions; instead, it grants OpenAI access to millions of potential users and offers Apple a sought-after chatbot feature.
