A recent poll by Gallup found that while New York City is known as the 'city that never sleeps,' only 42% of New Yorkers feel they are getting as much sleep as they need, with 57% stating they would feel better with more sleep. The poll revealed that only 26% of respondents get the recommended eight or more hours of sleep, with younger women under 50 being more likely to report insufficient rest. Factors affecting New Yorkers' sleep include noise pollution in the city, multiple jobs, and early wake times inconsistent with their circadian rhythm. Sleep medicine specialist Dr. Matthew Ebben suggests finding one's specific sleep needs by gradually increasing time in bed until feeling alert and refreshed during the day, highlighting that both insufficient and excessive sleep can lead to issues like insomnia.
