Arizona Fines Southwest Gas $2 Million for Defective Piping

Reported 16 days ago

Arizona regulators have imposed a $2 million fine on Southwest Gas for defective piping that degrades in heat, following incidents that led to injuries. The utility, which serves over 2 million customers, must increase inspections and address safety concerns related to the Driscopipe polyethylene pipes, particularly in hot regions like the Mohave Desert. In addition, Southwest Gas is required to notify regulators of any leaks and may need to propose new rates to recover costs associated with the settlement.
