Early on July 8, Lin Shijie, the father of DPP Tainan City Councilor Lin Yiting, was fatally shot in an ambush at his home. He was shot at close range with 3 bullets to the chest, face, and neck, losing vital signs on the spot. The police are actively investigating the gunmen and accomplices, suspecting premeditated crime due to knowledge of Lin Shijie's routine. Lin Shijie, the current director of a Tainan City Fisheries Association, had previously run for councilor unsuccessfully before supporting his daughter's successful election. The Prosecutor General has formed a special task force to expedite the investigation and punish the perpetrators.
