In the capital city of Makhachkala in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia, armed assailants launched attacks in multiple locations resulting in the deaths of 6 police officers, injuries to at least 12 others, the killing of 1 priest by throat cutting, and the fatal shooting of 2 gunmen. Authorities have initiated a terrorism investigation. The incident included assaults on an Eastern Orthodox church and a Jewish temple in Derbent, with both buildings being attacked simultaneously, including one set on fire. 2 gunmen were killed in the confrontation, and further details regarding the number of attackers are yet to be confirmed.
