According to documents from the US Department of Justice on June 25, 2024, a plea deal has been reached with the founder of the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, where he admits criminal charges in exchange for ending his imprisonment in the UK, allowing him to return to Australia and avoiding extradition to the US. Assange, 52, faced 18 charges related to leaking classified US military documents in 2010 and had been fighting extradition for nearly 5 years. Following the deal, Assange boarded a plane and left the UK. His case has sparked discussions on freedom of speech and government transparency.
