AT&T has agreed to pay $13 million following a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) investigation into a data breach involving a cloud vendor in January 2023, affecting approximately 8.9 million customers. The breach exposed customer data that should have been deleted years prior, but it did not include sensitive personal information like Social Security numbers or credit card details. As part of the settlement, AT&T will enhance its internal data management practices and address supply chain integrity to prevent future breaches.
