Australian budget airline 'Bonza' unexpectedly canceled all flights at the end of April, leaving thousands of passengers stranded and revealing debts of about $1.43 billion USD (approximately NT$46 billion). The company announced it had entered bankruptcy proceedings due to financial difficulties. 'Bonza' launched in January 2023, offering cheap tickets as low as $49 AUD (around NT$1046). However, after facing challenges like aircraft shortages and low passenger traffic, the airline rapidly reduced its routes and encountered a shutdown crisis after just 15 months of operation. The management confirmed the debt, including $5 million owed in employee wages, but is currently unable to address salary payments. Interested buyers have emerged, prompting hopes that the Federal Court will allow more time for 'Bonza' to find a new owner.
