In Austria, a 52-year-old man discovered long 5 cm dark hairs growing in his throat during a check-up years after smoking a pack a day habit since age 20. Despite multiple surgeries, the problem persisted until he decided to quit smoking and undergo surgical treatment, eventually freeing himself from the bizarre illness of 'throat hair' that plagued him for 14 years. The condition was linked to smoking-induced throat inflammation leading to stem cells transforming into hair follicles. After quitting smoking, the man's health improved significantly.
