Avoid More Bacteria! 3 Habits to Avoid When Using Dental Floss Sticks for Effective Cleaning

Reported 8 months ago

Dentists warn against three common mistakes when using dental floss sticks that may lead to more bacteria attaching to teeth, rendering the cleaning ineffective. Three things to avoid include not pressing vertically downwards as it may injure gums, avoiding back-and-forth sawing motions that do not effectively remove food debris, and not using the same stick from start to finish which essentially just shifts plaque from one side to another. Dentist Hsu Chia-jung advises rinsing or wiping the stick after cleaning each gap and emphasizes the importance of properly cleaning each side of a tooth to effectively remove debris. It is recommended to discard a stick if it loses tension after cleaning a few gaps to ensure oral hygiene and prevent dental issues.
