On July 3, 2024, the Penghu fishing boat 'Da Jin Man 88' was brought back by sea police when suspected of violating mainland China's seasonal fishing ban while operating outside Kinmen. Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je urged the formal initiation of a communication channel between both sides to prevent recurring incidents and escalating animosity. The Coast Guard stated that the boat was checked and detained by two Chinese patrol boats outside Kinmen. The Taiwanese and Indonesian crew members were aboard. The Mainland Affairs Council expressed concerns and requested a prompt explanation from the mainland through established channels to avoid unnecessary speculations and ensure the crew's safety.
