Reported 7 months ago

On July 16, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania announced their intention to exit a power grid agreement signed with Russia and Belarus in 2001, with plans to officially sever connections by February 2024. This decision aims to enhance energy independence and reduce reliance on Moscow, following years of negotiations and accelerated by the Ukraine conflict. The Baltic states will stop purchasing electricity from Russia and will finalize their connection to the European grid on February 9, 2024.
