Indigenous singer Bane won the Best Taiwanese Album Award at the Golden Melody Awards this year and mentioned the Tiananmen Square incident during her acceptance speech, sparking backlash and a flood of comments from Chinese netizens on her Instagram. Three years ago, she had also vocalized her support for Taiwan at another music awards event and emphasized the connection between music and politics. Bane, who has been an advocate for indigenous and environmental issues since 2010, received support and criticism for her outspoken views on political matters.
