A fire broke out in the Chatuchak pet market in Bangkok on June 11, 2024, resulting in the deaths of thousands of pets, including rare breeds. The fire spread from the Sisong Lo market around 4 a.m., affecting 118 pet shops covering 1400 square meters. The incident raised concerns about animal trading practices, with calls for the Bangkok city government to take action to stop animal abuse. The fire was extinguished in about half an hour, but a significant number of pets perished, including fish, cats, dogs, birds, monkeys, and high-value foreign species. Investigations and assessments of the losses are ongoing.
