Wells Fargo in the US uncovered employees using a 'fishy tool' to pretend to be working and fired 6 of them, while another resigned voluntarily. The tool mimics keyboard actions to make it seem like someone is working on the computer when in reality they are not. The bank's strict policy against dishonesty led to the dismissal of these employees, most of whom had not even completed 5 years of service. With the rise of remote work due to the pandemic, companies are implementing various monitoring tools to prevent employees from slacking off, but employees are finding ways to bypass these controls with tools like a 'mouse jiggler' being sold for $10 on Amazon, with thousands being sold monthly.
