As a result of the tourism boom, Barcelona faces soaring housing prices and rents, exacerbating the housing shortage. The authorities of the second-largest city in Spain, Barcelona, announced plans on June 21 to completely ban short-term apartment rentals to tourists starting from the end of 2028. This decision comes as a response to the negative impact of tourist overcrowding and the housing crisis, with the aim to address the difficulties residents face in finding housing and to manage the large number of apartments currently used for tourist accommodations in the city.
