BASF SE, the German chemicals giant, has begun soliciting interest from potential buyers for its coatings business, valued at approximately €6 billion ($6.81 billion), according to Bloomberg News. The Carlyle Group and Sherwin-Williams are reportedly considering a joint bid, while other private equity firms including CVC Capital Partners and Lone Star Funds have also shown interest. BASF aims to explore strategic options for its coatings division following a recent announcement to create autonomous units for its agriculture, battery materials, and coatings sectors.
