Basketball / Foreign Player System in New League Confirmed to be Abolished, Spokesperson Reveals: All 11 Teams Voted in Favor

Reported 12 months ago

Taiwan's two major basketball leagues, PLG and T1, with a total of 11 teams, will merge into a new league next season. The new league's organizing committee confirmed on July 1st that a 'Joint Draft' will be held on July 15th. However, the focus is on foreign players, as starting this year, foreign players from UBA will not be able to participate in the new league's draft. These players, including top prospect Mo Baye from National Chengchi University, and 7 others who had registered, will no longer be eligible for the draft. The organizing committee spokesperson confirmed that all 11 teams voted in favor of abolishing the foreign player system. This decision came after the announcement of the merger between PLG and T1, where previously, UBA foreign players were eligible to enter the draft based on certain criteria. This sudden change has caused confusion among the 8 foreign players who had already signed up for the draft, leading them to release a joint statement in Chinese expressing their concerns and urging the new league to prioritize foreign players' rights.
