Taiwan's two major professional basketball leagues, PLG and T1, were expected to merge into a new league with 11 teams. However, after the establishment of the new league and joint physical testing, some teams decided to withdraw, with 4 teams returning to PLG and 1 to T1. The new league, consisting of 7 teams, announced the official name as the 'Taiwan Professional Basketball League (TPBL)' and expressed regrets over the team withdrawals. They emphasized the importance of unity and respect among all teams for the success of the league's future under the leadership of Chairman Chuang Jui-hsiung.
