California is expected to avoid rolling blackouts this summer due to the rapid addition of new solar plants and large batteries to the state's grid. Officials anticipate that the resources added in the last four years, including 6.6 gigawatts of batteries, 6.3 gigawatts of solar, and 1.4 gigawatts of solar-storage combinations, will provide ample supplies for typical summer weather. Additionally, hydropower plants are expected to contribute as a reliable source of electricity following two wet winters. Backup resources can supply an extra 5 gigawatts of electricity in case of emergencies, although unexpected events like wildfires could still strain supplies.
