Bayer AG's CEO, Bill Anderson, stated that the lawsuits over its Roundup weedkiller pose an "existential" threat to the company and farmers due to the potential to hinder innovation for food security. Bayer is considering a legal tactic called the Texas Two-Step bankruptcy to settle thousands of US lawsuits alleging Roundup causes cancer. The company has defended glyphosate's safety and its necessity for feeding a growing population. Bayer has already spent $10 billion of a $16 billion reserve set aside for Roundup suits.
