In New Taipei City, a man surnamed Hou decided to take drastic action to compel his 29-year-old friend, surnamed Li, to repay a 500,000 TWD debt by teaming up with friends and his wife to abduct and beat him. During the ordeal, they even live-streamed Li's cries of pain on a phone to pressure him into paying up. After a deep investigation by the Sanxia police, Hou and his wife were arrested at a parking lot in Taoyuan with evidence such as toy guns and drugs seized on the scene. Hou claimed he was only acting out a drama with Li, but he and his wife were charged with extortion, unlawful detention, and assault, with further investigations ongoing.
