On June 28, 2024, at 2:00 AM, a fraud group used AI face-changing technology to impersonate Hong Kong star Andy Lau and had video calls with fans via LINE! A woman in New Taipei City was scammed over two million in half a year because she believed she was interacting with 'Andy Lau,' and even the driver she hired for withdrawals was a fan, saying he was recruited by Lau's PR company. The 58-year-old woman was arrested for unknowingly participating in the fraud scheme. The police found that the group pretended to be Andy Lau, claiming to need funds for a vacation in Taiwan, prompting loyal fans to readily hand over money. This incident highlights the increasing use of AI face-swapping for fraudulent activities, urging fans to be cautious and not fall victim to scams.
