On June 14, 2024, SET News Network reported that the 2023 China Strait Forum, set to be held in Fujian on the 15th, has invited representatives from Taiwanese political parties, organizers, industry representatives, and community leaders. The Nationalist Party delegation will be led by Lien Sheng-wen. However, the National Security Unit has warned that Chinese-invited visiting groups are encouraged to simultaneously apply for 'residence permits,' 'bank cards,' and 'phone cards (Chinese mobile phone numbers)' as part of United Front activities. As the focus shifts to 'integrating Taiwan' this year, the forum coincides with the cancellation of ECFA tariff reductions, leading to a lower overall attendance willingness. This year's forum, with a predicted attendance far below previous years, emphasizes 'integrated development' and aims to push for Taiwan citizens to purchase properties in China to alleviate issues like real estate oversupply. The forum will also introduce various 'city cluster' initiatives, promoting Taiwan investment in China. The shift towards 'integrating Taiwan to stimulate the market' has become China's new focus, with the forum stressing the development of integrated areas in Fujian and encouraging Taiwan residents to buy property in mainland China. The forum, lacking the previously offered 'Taiwan-friendly measures,' seeks to attract Taiwan capital to address China's economic challenges, marking a significant change from past strategies.
