Being Charged Extra despite Public Set Prices! Visitors in Jiufen Complain about Poor Experience

Reported about 1 year ago

A family of six in Taoyuan visited Jiufen Old Street in New Taipei City and decided to take a 7-seater taxi down the mountain to the train station. Despite the public set price of 220 NT dollars displayed on the sign, the driver demanded an additional 50 NT dollars for exceeding 4 passengers due to different fuel consumption, causing dissatisfaction among the tourists. Local drivers in Jiufen also expressed frustration, stating that while they follow the rules, outsiders often disrupt the market. The Transportation Bureau advised individuals to request receipts or gather evidence for reporting to transport authorities if overcharged by drivers. Visitors, including many international tourists, are concerned about encountering drivers who arbitrarily raise prices, damaging both their experience and the area's international image.
