The benchmark diesel price, used for fuel surcharges, has dropped for the eighth consecutive week, with this week's average declining by 3.2 cents a gallon to $3.726. Over an eight-week period, the price has decreased by 33.5 cents a gallon and is currently 7.1 cents lower than a year ago. The drop in diesel futures prices, such as ULSD, down to $2.2962 a gallon, the lowest since May 31, 2023, is impacting retail prices. The decline is attributed to an unexpected decision from OPEC+ to gradually increase production starting in October.
