Best AC Temperature Setting During a Heat Wave

Reported 11 months ago

During heat waves, the Department of Energy recommends setting the AC temperature to one's comfort level with humidity control to reduce cooling bills. Energy Star suggests setting it at 78 degrees for peak comfort and efficiency while sleeping and away from home. However, a Consumer Reports survey found most people set it much cooler at 72 degrees. Suggestions for energy efficiency include using a programmable thermostat and implementing other cooling strategies like curtains, limiting heat-producing appliances, checking weather stripping, and using ceiling fans for air circulation.
