Beware! KMT City Councilors Challenge for New Taipei City Mayor as Hou Yu-yi Steps Down

Reported 11 months ago

As the 2026 nine-in-one election approaches, New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-yi is set to step down, making the position a battleground for different parties. While Taipei City Deputy Mayor Lee Shih-chuan is a front-runner from the KMT, senior New Taipei City Councilor Lin Kuo-chun has declared his intention to enter the party's primary election for the mayoral candidacy, with Hou encouraging him to 'go for it.' Apart from Lee, also rumored as potential candidates are top-voted legislator in this year's elections Hung Meng-kai and incumbent Vice Mayor Liu He-jan from the blue camp, along with legislator Huang Kuo-chang from the People's Party and legislator Su Chiao-hui from the DPP. Lin Kuo-chun, with a background in law enforcement and unsuccessful attempts at legislative elections in the past, aims to seek voter support in this bid for the mayoral candidacy.
