Reported 11 months ago

A recent case in Kaohsiung, Taiwan has brought attention to the brain-eating amoeba, known as Naegleria fowleri, which caused a man's death due to amoebic encephalitis. This amoeba is commonly found in warm freshwater sources and can be contracted by inhaling contaminated water through activities like swimming or diving. The infection can lead to a rare but fatal condition known as Naegleria fowleri meningoencephalitis, with symptoms like headache, fever, neck stiffness, seizures, and altered consciousness, and a high mortality rate of 99%. Preventive measures include avoiding putting your head underwater, using nose clips during water activities, and choosing safe and clean water sources for swimming or hot springs.
