Renowned British doctor and television host Xand van Tulleken warns that many foods rich in protein are actually 'ultra-processed foods,' which may lead to weight gain and risks of heart disease and diabetes. Unlike fats or carbohydrates, the body cannot store protein, making it important to consume quality protein. Tulleken cautions that many people may mistakenly consume harmful 'ultra-processed foods' while seeking out protein-rich foods, which often contain large amounts of saturated fats, salt, sugar, preservatives, emulsifiers, artificial colorings, and flavorings. The need to be cautious of such foods arises as more than half of the calories consumed by the British population come from ultra-processed foods.
