The West Nile Virus, primarily spread by mosquitoes, is impacting Europe once again. Earlier in the year, outbreaks of dengue fever and Zika virus in Europe had put tourists on high alert. Recent cases of the West Nile Virus have been detected in Spain and Italy, with a 20% chance of developing West Nile fever symptoms such as fever, headache, seizures, muscle weakness, and paralysis. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has issued warnings, highlighting that individuals over 50 or with underlying health conditions are at higher risk, with potential severe outcomes including neurological infections and around 10% fatality rate. The best prevention method currently is to avoid mosquito bites.
