The Criminal Investigation Bureau cautioned the public to be wary of rental scams where individuals are asked to prepay a deposit before viewing the property, especially if the rental offer seems too good to be true. With housing costs rising in Taiwan, scammers on social media lure victims with ads for well-located apartments at low prices, requesting advance rent payments for viewing but disappearing once the money is transferred. To avoid falling into these traps, the police advise verifying the landlord's identity, being cautious of unusually low rental prices, and using reputable rental platforms when seeking accommodation.
