A fraudulent duo in Banqiao, New Taipei City, attempted to extort money by pretending a mother and daughter had damaged their designer bag while passing through an alley on Guanqian East Road. The scammers were caught by police after the daughter posted about the incident online, leading to surveillance footage confirming no collision and past records of the fraudsters engaging in similar scams. The suspects, when caught, claimed they were 'drunk' at the time, were charged with fraud and theft under the Criminal Code, and the victims praised the police for their swift response and advised the public to report such incidents immediately rather than trying to settle privately.
