Recently, a person surnamed Chan received a scam text message from a fraud group impersonating 'Taiwan Water Corporation' demanding immediate payment of overdue water bills with a threat of water supply termination, leading to a loss of NT $60,000 due to credit card information leakage. The Criminal Investigation Bureau warned citizens to recognize '111' as the official SMS source. Similar fraudulent SMS tactics have been used by scammers impersonating Taiwan Power Company. Both Taiwan Water and Taiwan Power have implemented a '111 code SMS' policy, urging people to verify the source of official SMS messages. Citizens are advised to be cautious of suspicious SMS messages, increase vigilance, and contact the respective companies or authorities if in doubt, while promptly reporting any fraud incidents to the police or Anti-Fraud hotline.
