In Hsinchu, many residents have been receiving fraudulent text messages supposedly from Taiwan Water Corporation urging payment of water bills, which the water company's Third District Office warns as scams and advises the public not to click on any links to make payments to avoid being deceived. Only trust text messages sent by "111" as legitimate government or state-owned enterprise communications. To combat fraud, the Water Corporation has implemented a policy where legitimate text messages for bills and reminders will use the "111" code, distinguishing them from fraudulent government imitations. If in doubt, residents are encouraged to verify by contacting the company directly or consulting anti-fraud resources.
